What does it mean? What do I do about it?
Example alert from the ProTopPortal:
What does it mean?
This alert reports that you only have only 2 AI extents available to switch to. This situation occurs when the active AI files are not backed up and marked as empty in a timely fashion.
What to do?
If you have the space in the short term, you can add AI files online to create breathing room while investigating and addressing the root cause.
If you have reached a critical point and are in danger of stalling or bringing down the database, consider disabling after-imaging. This is a backup mechanism after all, it should never negatively impact production. With the database online:
rfutil db-name -C aimage aioff
Once the root cause is addressed, you can re-enable after imaging, and if using OE replication, recreate your target db(s) during a maintenance window.
If you are using a custom-built AI management system, check your logs. Perhaps the process has stopped due to running out of disk space, or a storage device or transfer mechanism has become unavailable. The AI files will remain "full" until they are backed up and marked as empty.
If you are using the OE AI Management Deamon and are running OE Replication, most likely, the AI files are not being replicated to the target(s). In this case, the extents will be "locked" until replication is re-established and the target database(s) synchronized with the source.
Try restarting the replication agent(s) and server to initiate synchronization.
