What does it mean? What do I do about it?
Example alert from the ProTop Portal:
What does it mean?
This alert reports that you have more than (2 or 4) full AI extents. This situation occurs when the active AI files are not backed up and marked as empty in a timely fashion.
What to do?
Look into why the AI files are not being emptied for re-use.
Add AI files or a variable AI extent
If you are about to run out of AI and have the space in the short term, you can add AI files online to create breathing room while investigating and addressing the root cause.
Check your logs
If you are using a custom-built AI management system, check your logs. Perhaps the process has stopped due to running out of disk space, or a storage device or transfer mechanism has become unavailable. The AI files will remain "full" until they are backed up and marked as empty.
In a pinch, stop AI
If you have reached a critical point and are in danger of stalling or bringing down the database you should also consider disabling after-imaging. This is a backup mechanism, it should not negatively impact production. With the database online:
rfutil db-name -C aimage aioff
Once the root cause is addressed, you can re-enable after-imaging.
