What does it mean? What do I do about it?
Example alert from the ProTop Portal:
What does it mean?
The Before-Image Writer is a "helper" process that performs disk IO to the before-image log on behalf of the user so that the user does not need to wait. There should always be a BIW running.
What to do?
Start a BIW when you start your other helper processes like AIW, APW, watchdog, etc. Add this command to your database startup script:
probiw <dbname>
Or enable it in OEE or OEM.
If all else fails...
