Alert: hasVar No variable extent

What does it mean? What do I do about it?

Example alert from the ProTop Portal:

What does it mean?

The indicated storage area does not have a variable extent. If the storage area fills up and there is no variable extent available to grow into, the database will crash.

What to do?

Add a variable extent.

In the case of after-image extents, having all variable extents and switching on a timed basis could prevent an outage if an ai switch fails due to no more empty extents.  Proper monitoring would prevent this situation from occurring but should the impossible happen, using variable AI extents could stave off an outage while the lack of free AI extents is addressed.
