What does it mean? What do I do?
Example alert from the ProTop Portal:
What does it mean?
Latch requests are high; this may indicate unexpected application behavior.
What to do?
Investigate. Establish if this is normal behavior for your environment.
See ProTop Portal Trends > Latches and resources > Latch requests.
Is this normal or exceptional behavior for this database? If it appears normal, increase the threshold for this alert so that it is sent when it crosses into abnormal territory.
If it is unusual, start by using ProTop RT to see what is happening in the database. Is there a report or another batch job that should not be running?
If all else fails...
