I see a chart labeled User Defined in the ProTop Portal. What's it about?

This module allows you to collect and monitor user-defined and application-specific data.
The simplest metrics to monitor are counters that monotonically increase and bear an interesting relationship to business activity. "Widgets Shipped" might be such a metric in your system.
