What does it mean? What do I do about it?
Example alert from the ProTop Portal:
What does it mean?
A high volume of reads from the disk is occurring in your database. High OS reads per second are not unusual during large batch operations like reports and backups. Still, your users will likely feel it if they happen during the day.
What to do?
If possible, high-read operations are best avoided in an online transaction processes (OLTP) database. Move them to off-hours or off-load them to a database designed for analytical processing that will not conflict with transactional users.
This could also be an indication of an insufficient buffer pool. See Tuning your database buffer pool for more information.
